Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov wrote in a post in his Telegram channel that his country is working to draft such a statement at the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) against Islamophobia and anti-Islam moves such as desecration of the Quran.
He said the statement will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, slated for December 8.
Back in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin said desecration of the Quran is not seen as a crime in some countries but it is penalized in Russia.

“In our country, this is a crime both according to the Constitution and the penal code,” he said.
“The Quran is sacred for Muslims and should be sacred for others,” he said, adding, “We will always abide by these rules.”
